Meet the Governors
The Governors of Churwell Primary bring expertise from all areas industry drawing on their knowledge and experience and from all corners of the wider community. We volunteer our time and regularly meet at the school to not only support, but also challenge the headteacher whilst respecting the role as professional leader of the school. The decisions made together effect school policies, targets and the direction of the school, taking into consideration decisions that have been made as part of the Aspire partnership. In effect this is the strategic management of the school, whilst acting as a ‘critical friend’.
Sarah O’Hagan – Chair of Governors, LEA Governor
I have been a governor since September 2012 and have one daughter, Indie who attends the school. I joined the governing body because my initial impressions of the school were so positive that I wanted to give my full support to its continuing development.
I work as an accountant and I feel that my professional background coupled with my enthusiasm for the school as a parent will enable me to make a valuable contribution to school life during my time as governor. I am really enjoying getting to know the pupils and teachers through my visits into school; it’s fabulous to see how keen the pupils are to share what they doing and how proud they are of their achievements.
Please approach me if you have any questions and I will do my very best to answer them or to find an answer for you.
Claire Staveley - Parent Governor
I joined the Governing Body at Churwell Primary in November 2013. My son Alexander and daughter Ava attend the school. By profession, I am a HR Manager with over 10 year’s experience in the public sector. I believe that being part of the Governing body is a positive way of supporting the school and the local community.
Matt Appleby - Parent Governor
I live in Churwell with my partner Rachel and became a member of the governing body at the beginning of 2016. We have one daughter, Bronte, who attends the school. Having seen how much Bronte has developed and enjoys the whole experience at Churwell Primary I wanted to help the school continue to provide a great learning environment for the children in the area. I am a financial adviser for a wealth management firm based in Leeds and provide my services to a wide range of clients. I hope that by passing on my experience and knowledge I can be of benefit to the school.
Farah Shippam –Co- opted Governor - Vice Chair of Governors
I have been a member of the governing body since the end of 2013. I have two daughters, Maya and Seren who attend the school. I work as an IT project manager for a social care software provider and have been working with the public sector for 18 years. I chose to join the governing body to contribute and support the school from a parent perspective. It has given me an appreciation of the hard work that the staff do to maintain high standards
Pete Holmes – Co-Opted Governor
I have a daughter, Daisy and a son, Billy who attend the school. I am a Higher Education Lecturer with a specialism in PE and Sports Coaching. I therefore have a particular interest in PE, physical activity and health within the school. I have lived in Churwell for over ten years now and hope to give something to the school, the pupils and the local community through my involvement as a governor.
Steve Webber – Co-Opted Governor
My decision to join the governing body came after some volunteering work I took part in helping out at some of the excellent events run by the PTA. Coming into the school during a ‘working day’ and seeing how it worked inspired me to get more involved.
Professionally I run an IT consultancy business which operates UK wide working extensively with colleges and universities along with large private sector organisations and leading sports venues. I very much hope to use some of my experience in designing and delivering IT solutions to assist Churwell Primary get the very best from their use of technology.
I am currently the chairman for LEAP (which many may recognise as ‘Young Enterprise’) which supports schools and mentors their students in setting up a business for an academic year. I believe that such practical skills are vital to a child’s success in later life – allowing them to ‘stand out’ from the crowd.
Lisa Cooper – Co-Opted Governor
Passionate about education and development of young people, I have decided to become a school governor and I am really grateful to be given this opportunity at Churwell Primary. As a parent I have fond memories of both my children's time spent at this school and it's great to see some familiar people still there. I have worked in finance for thirty years and hope to bring my skills and knowledge to this role and contribute to the further development of the school's ethos and high standards
Kate McGough – Co-Opted Governor
I have a daughter, Chloe attends the school and a son Harry who will hopefully start next year. I have previously worked in education and have a particular interest in and experience of Special Educational Needs. I feel it is important that all children achieve and fulfil their potential and I hope to support the school in its vision for this.
Natalie Marshment – Co-Opted Governor
I joined the governors in order to be able to do my small part to help the school maintain and drive forwards its high standards of learning and support for its pupils. As a teacher myself and mum of 2 under 5s, I understand that we all want the best education and opportunities for our children, and I believe Churwell Primary is a place well equipped to offer these.
